Set up your computer

One download and one double-click, with no code to copy. How the Wildflower agent gets onto the computer you trade from, and how to tell it is connected.

Wildflower places orders from your own computer, through a small program called the Wildflower agent. Setting it up is one download and one double-click. The page at Bot settings, then Desktop agent, guides you from start to finish.

What you need

  • A Windows 10 or 11 computer.
  • 8 GB of memory or more.
  • 20 GB of free disk space. Most of that is a one-off download. It does not keep growing.
  • A computer that stays on and awake while you trade. A desktop PC is simplest. A laptop that goes to sleep stops trading until it wakes. If trading stops, we email you.

There is nothing to install first. The installer brings everything it needs, and checks your computer before it changes anything.

The steps

  1. On the computer you want to trade from, open Bot settings, then Desktop agent, and choose Download Wildflower Setup. One zip file lands in your Downloads folder.
  2. Right-click Wildflower Setup.zip, choose Extract All, and open the new folder.
  3. Double-click Install Wildflower. Windows asks whether the app can make changes. Choose Yes. There's no code to copy. Your download links the computer to your account by itself, and you don't need a broker account yet.
  4. When the download finishes, the installer opens a page on that computer that asks for your broker sign-in, and prints the link to it. What it asks for depends on your broker, for example a username and API key, or a username and password. Type them there, or use Connections if that computer has no screen. They stay on that computer, locked by Windows to your user account, and we never see them. Where your broker sign-in lives has the detail.

The installer tells you what it is doing at every step. Allow ten to twenty minutes. Nearly all of that is one large download. If Windows needs to restart, it says so first, and setup carries on after you sign back in.

You can delete the download

Early in setup, Wildflower copies itself to C:\Wildflower\agent and runs from there. Once setup finishes, you can delete Wildflower Setup.zip and the extracted folder.

You do this once per computer, not once per account. One computer runs every account you switch on. How many it can run at once depends on the computer.

How you know it worked

The Desktop agent page shows a live status, with no refresh needed. Once the agent checks in, it says your computer is set up. Then enter your broker sign-in on Connections. Once an account is switched on, it shows RUNNING on your Accounts page.

What can go wrong

  • The installer asks for a setup code. The code that came with your download has been used or is out of date. Download Wildflower Setup again from the Desktop agent page and run it. Each download carries a fresh code that works once, within a day, so a copied download is no use to anyone after you install.
  • Double-clicking shows a message about unpacking. The file was opened from inside the zip. Go back to Downloads, right-click the zip, choose Extract All, and double-click Install Wildflower in the new folder.
  • The installer stops with a message. Every stop names the problem and the fix, and nothing on the computer changes until its checks pass. Fix the named thing and double-click Install Wildflower again. It picks up where it left off.
  • The status never turns green. Check the computer is on, awake and online, then give it a minute. If it still shows offline.
  • The broker sign-in page did not open. The installer prints the link instead. Open it in a browser on that same computer. To see the link again later, run show-credential-link.ps1 in your Wildflower folder.
  • The account says it is waiting for your broker sign-in. Nothing has been saved on that computer yet. Open the same page and enter it.
  • You deleted the setup folder part-way through. Download it again and run Install Wildflower. It carries on where it stopped.
