Where your broker sign-in lives

Your broker sign-in is stored on your own computer, locked to your Windows user. What that protects, and what it means if you change computers.

Your broker sign-in is stored on the computer that runs Wildflower for you. It is not on our servers, and it is not in the file the installer downloads.

Two ways to enter it

From the Connections page. Open Connections, find your broker, and choose Enter your broker sign-in. Adding a broker for the first time works the same way. Before it leaves the page, your browser locks what you type with a key only your computer holds. We pass it on but cannot read it. Your computer collects it within seconds, and the page says Received on your computer with a short reference.

On the computer itself. If you are sitting at that computer, it has its own page that opens only from a private link. The installer prints the link and opens it for you. To see it again, run show-credential-link.ps1 in your Wildflower folder. What you type there never passes through us at all.

Either way, Windows encrypts what arrives and locks it to your Windows user, the same way it protects saved passwords. That gives you two things:

  • We never hold it. We only get a short code saying the details exist and when you last entered them. It cannot be turned back into your sign-in.
  • A copied file is useless. Taken off that computer, or opened by a different Windows user on it, it will not open.

Checking it reaches your computer

Wildflower checks automatically that the page is sending to your own computer. If it can't confirm that, it sends nothing and tells you. If you reinstall Wildflower, the page mentions that your computer looks different, which is normal.

Adding another account

Switch the account on in Wildflower. If the computer already has that broker's sign-in, the account starts trading within about a minute, with nothing to type. You sign in to a broker, not to each account. So one sign-in covers every account under that login, including ones you add later. A second login with the same broker needs its own sign-in.

If you change computers

You enter your broker sign-in again on the new computer. We hold no copy to restore. It takes a minute:

  1. Install the agent on the new computer (Set up your computer).
  2. Enter your broker sign-in on the page it opens.
  3. Your accounts, strategies, settings and history are all unchanged. They live in your Wildflower account, not on the computer.

The old computer keeps its copy until you remove the agent. Switch Wildflower off there first.

What can go wrong

  • The account says it is waiting for your broker sign-in. That computer does not have it yet. Enter it from the Connections page, or on the computer itself.
  • Connections says it is still waiting for your computer to collect it. It collects within a few seconds while the computer is on and online. If it keeps waiting, check that, then send it again.
  • Connections shows a note about setting up your computer instead of a form. Wildflower has not run on that computer yet, so there is no key to lock your sign-in with. Finish the setup there first.
  • The page asks you to open it from your link. Run show-credential-link.ps1 in your Wildflower folder to print the link again.
  • The page says it cannot open your saved details. They were saved by a different Windows user, or on another computer. Enter them again.
  • You changed your API key or password at your broker. Enter the new one on the same page before the next session.
