Profiles: the same strategy, different settings

A profile is a named set of changed numbers on one strategy, so an evaluation account and a funded account can run it differently.

Traders often run the same rules differently at different stages. An evaluation account and a funded account are not the same situation. Copying a strategy twice to show that leaves you with two things to keep up to date.

A profile is a named set of changed numbers that sits on top of a version. The rules stay as one strategy. The profile changes only the numbers.

How it works

  • The strategy holds the rules and its own values.
  • A profile lists some of those settings and the values to use instead.
  • When the strategy runs, the profile's values replace the strategy's own for those settings. Everything else stays as the strategy has it.

You can change any setting the strategy has a value for. That includes a setting on one named part of a detector, not only on the detector itself.

How to use it

  1. Open the strategy from the Library tab of Strategies and go to its profiles.
  2. Create a profile and give it a name that describes the situation.
  3. Set the values that should be different.
  4. When you put the strategy on an account, choose which profile that account uses.

What it is not

A profile is not a second strategy and not a preset. A new profile starts empty, with no values in it, for you to fill in.

Which plan

Profiles are part of the Bot plan.

What can go wrong

A profile's change only works if the setting it names still exists. If you rebuild a strategy and a setting is gone, the change has nothing to apply to. Check your profiles after you change a strategy's structure.

What's next

Put the strategy on an account.
